Remodelling Your Bathroom? Five Safe, Contemporary Colours to Paint Your Bathroom

Thinking of remodelling your bathroom? Whether you’re looking to give a greater impression of space or make the bathroom feel fresher or for any other reason, the choice of colour used within the bathroom is perhaps one of the most important considerations.

Naturally, you should also use the opportunity to modernise your fixtures such as the toilet or perhaps adding in a modern walk-in shower, but colour is one of the most cost-effective ways to change the ambience and feel of the bathroom altogether.

Below are five safe and contemporary colours to consider when painting and decorating your bathroom:

1.White – Classic & Timeless

It shouldn’t come as a surprise that white is amongst the most popular classic colours (or shades, if you prefer) to paint your bathroom. White is aesthetically pleasing but it is also functional, allowing for easier cleaning of shower tiles and fixtures that might have hair or other debris that need to be cleaned up.

White is also a timeless colour that likely won’t ever go out of fashion. It is without a doubt the safest choice for just about any bathroom, so if you don’t want to risk choosing a colour you might tire of then going with plain ol’ white is likely going to be your best choice.

Keep in mind that there are multiple “whites” out there such as eggshell, off-white, as well as tones bordering on light greys as well.

2.Blue – Calm & Tranquil

Blue is a colour that often brings about feelings of tranquillity and relaxation, which is why it’s a great colour for bathrooms where you intend to feel at peace. This colour is also great if you’ve got a bathtub and enjoy taking long, hot baths in peace and quiet.

When it comes to shades and tones of blue, there’s a big difference between baby blues and sky blues when compared to deep, rich blues. The former can look cleaner and perhaps leans more towards tranquil, whereas the latter adds depth and a marine inspiration to the bathroom.

3.Green – Earthy & Natural

Want a natural, earthy ambience to your bathroom? You’ll certainly want green. As a colour evoking rejuvenation, growth, and nature in general, green is a biophilia lover’s canvas. Light sage, serene green, and rich olive colours can all work well in the bathroom.

Bathrooms with green walls or accents are best complemented with wooden accents, earthy brown decor such as toothpaste cups, and plenty of plants (potted and/or hanging).

4.Grey – Contemporary & Modern

Grey, much like white, tends to look clean and fresh in a bathroom but with a slightly more contemporary look. As a shade with plenty of versatility, greys work well with one another in varying tones up to black for accents (towel bars, faucets, etc.).

A general tip for most bathrooms that need to look taller than they may be in reality is to use dark colours on the bottom half (flooring, tiles) and brighten up with soft greys or whites as the eye goes up. Greys are great for this.

5.Pastels – Colouful & Fresh

Rounding out the above four bathroom colours, we’re tying up our list with the various pastel colours that work well alone as well as when complemented with whites and other colours (with caution, of course).

Examples of vibrant pastels that can mesh well with white walls or other accents include mint green, lime green, soft pink, bright blue, and many other pastels.
